Inky Hands Print Studio is offering classes and workshops in limited edition silk screen printing and book making! CLASSES IN SCREEN PRINTING

Screen Printing on Paper: Beginner

Inky Hands offers one-day screen printing workshops which cover all of the basics of screen printing. Attendees will learn first hand how to properly coat, expose, print from and clean a screen. Differences in inks, printing substrates, screen mesh and film work will all be discussed, and multi-color registration techniques will be covered (plan on printing 2 colors).

No experience is necessary for the one day workshop and they are open to anyone who wants to learn how to print!

This course is not sufficient training to become an Open-Access Member. Please enroll in the Beginner Short Course.

Please bring your own 2 color artwork on Vellum paper or thin white paper (drawn with India Ink), photoshop stencils on acetate will not be created in this class.

Painterly Printmaking - Monoprint Silk Screen

This class will encourage creative practice, experimentation and development of your screen printing vocabulary using monoprinting methods for image making. You will learn to use the "screen as a canvas"

You will be introduced to a different approach to the conventional printing process and outcomes. By the end of the class you will have developed an understanding for monoprinting using the screen print process.

Topics Covered: Alternative screen printing processes, experimental screen image making, print application, and using the screen in the creative process.

Course Outcomes: By the end of this class you should be able to develop creative practice and apply a different approach to screen printing.

Who Should Attend: Those familiar with screen printing and are looking to develop their skills in a different method of the process.

Level: Beginner (you should have an understanding of the Screen Printing process)

WORKSHOPS IN SCREEN PRINTING

One Hit Wonders

Monotype encourages vibrant color, rich textures and spontaneous mark making and students will work from their own images to paint and draw directly on the silkscreen using materials such as charcoal, acrylic inks, and watercolor pencils.

All materials included, plus one sheet of 18 x 24 inch printmaking paper

SHORT COURSES IN SCREEN PRINTING

Beginner Short Course

This course is made of four classes.

This hands-on course will introduce you to the equipment and techniques of screen printing onto paper using the water-based process. Master Printer, Kat LiBretto, will guide you through workshops and demonstrations and give individual feedback so you can learn the fundamental techniques and develop confidence in printmaking.

You will create single prints and editions, demonstrating new skills in screen printing, and you will further develop your understanding of the process by printing your own multiple color print based on your own creative goals.

Topics Covered: Creating images for screen printing, coating and exposing your screen, setting up the press for printing, mixing Inks and printing multiple colors.

Course Outcomes: At the end of the course you will be able to understand stencil making techniques and their suitability for assorted effects and imagery, coat and expose a screen using photographic emulsion and a vacuum press and have confidence in printing and registering for multiple colors on a press.

Who Should Attend: Artists, designers and illustrators looking to explore new image making skills. Artists with past silk screen knowledge but need a refresher course. Artists who wish to become Open-Access Members.

Intermediate Short Course

This course is made up of four classes. This course will encourage creative practice, experimentation and development of your screen printing vocabulary using direct methods of screen image making and print application. You will learn to use the "screen as a sketchbook'. You will be introduced to a different approach to the conventional printing process and outcomes.

By the end of the course you will have developed a creative practice portfolio.

Topics covered: Alternative screen printing methods, experimental screen image making, print application, and using the screen in the creative process (ie: mono printing, hand painted stencils, metallics, diamond dust, varnish, gilding applications)

Beginner CMYK Printing

Learn how to make screen prints using four color process (CMYK). In this course you will be shown how to make halftone separations from a full color digital image using Photoshop, make screens, register and print at Inky Hand's fully equipped studio. The course is open to those who have attended Screen Printing on Paper for beginners or gained experience elsewhere. By the end of the course participants will have printed an edition of 15, four color prints (maximum size 18 x 24 inches).

Requirements

Attendees will need to bring a digital image at 300ppi on a memory stick or hard drive and a note book. If attendees have a laptop with Photoshop they are advized to bring it. All materials are provided.

Skill Level

This workshop is designed for those who already have some experience of screen printing onto paper or have completed our Screenprinting on Paper: Beginners workshop.

CLASSES, WORKSHOPS AND SHORT COURSES IN BOOKMAKING

Ever been interested in creating your own notebooks, sketchbooks, journals or books? This class features tutorials in how to assemble signatures of paper, stab stitching and sewing the signatures of paper, and exploring different cover options. Each student will leave class with one finish book of their choice.

Materials are in included.

This in-depth short course spends time of 4 weeks of classes, designing, creating, assembling and finishing the final book. There are options for use the screen print studio for your book arts as well as gilding materials.

There is time in this class to study the options available for Bookmaking as a fine art form, and what goes into creating multiples, different book layouts, a single book, notebooks and sketchbooks, and the alternative stitchings to use for assembly

Book making materials will be provided for each student.

Cover materials may be required to be found or purchased separately.

This Course will take you through all stages of printmaking and book arts, and different types of bookbinding and books. You will have the opportunity to screen print paper or use blank paper for your signatures. There will also be the opportunity to silk screen your book cover as well.

All materials are included.
