Acetate
Handmade or photographic images that are transferred onto screens
The printmaking process begins with hand-made or photographic images that are transferred onto screens ready for printing.
The artwork may be drawn, sprayed or painted on transparent film. It may be hand cut from paper or masking film, or it may be any type of digital image,The process begins with hand-made or photographic images such as photography, a scan of a painting or drawing, or an image created on the computer. These images are transferred onto screens.
Digitally printed acetates can range in size but the studio can print up to 24 inches wide by any length. The maximum screen size that is used at Inky Hands is currently 30 x 40 inches.
Finishing
There are a number of finishing techniques to make each edition unique
There is a variety of finishing options available to make each edition unique, including cutting, debossing and tearing.
The studio can tear down the edges of prints, creating a handmade feel which can complete the aesthetic of certain prints.
Debossing creates an indent in a print, similar in appearance to a plate mark of an etching, and adds a sense of depth to any print . This effect can be used to define the edge of an image or create an outer border around the image.
Varnish
A layer of varnish can be screen printed on top of the screen print
Varnish can be screen printed on top of the prints that are produced in the studio. The studio can cover entire images or add spot varnish to specific details in a print. Varnish greatly enhances the vibrancy of screen prints and adds a reflective layer to your work.
Leafing
Can embellish prints with a metallic leaf such as gold or silver
The studio can embellish your prints with metallic leaf such as gold, silver or imitation. It can be applied to small sections or used to create entire backgrounds of prints or create shapes. Leafing adds a textured layer to a print that cannot be replicated by printing ink.
