As artists and creatives we are asked to share our view of the world and engage with others. The goal of the Inky Hands Artist in Residency program is to foster young, emerging and professional artists in a collaborative prInt studio environment. This Artist in Residency encourages and fosters the development of the artists’ practice as a printmaker through creative, intellectual and personal growth, where ideas lead to discussions and discussions lead to growth in process and practice. The residency focuses on the development of the artists’ process by providing the artist a fully equipped print studio for the two weeks of residency. Inky Hands is a positive environment where the artist is encouraged to experiment, make mistakes and problem solve. The artist should expect to work closely with the Master Printer for help and guidance when needed, allowing for their practice to progress and their ideas to develop successfully into printed editions.
The artist should expect to exhibit their artworks at the end of the residency, as well as give a discussion about their work and creative process to the community. The artist is expected to hold a meet and greet discussion with the local community, fostering a relationship and engaging and exposing them to a variety of artistic voices that make Plymouth their home during the time they are here, striving to bring a broader artistic and cultural conversation to the local community and economy.
